How to participate

Eligibility criteria

  • Be enrolled in a secondary school in Burkina Faso.
  • Be a citizen of Burkina Faso or resident in Burkina Faso.
  • Only secondary school students are eligible in the national selection process, and students in examination classes are excluded.
  • No prior experience in artificial intelligence is required to enter Round 1.

The regional pre-selection covers the five regions of Burkina Faso: Centre, North, East, West and South. The best school in each region is selected on the basis of students’ exam performance and national category.

Registration

Registration is organized at school level. Schools in the five regions of Burkina Faso (Centre, North, East, West and South) register first, and the best school in each region is selected on the basis of students’ exam performance and national category. Students then register through their selected school.

Fees

Participation is free of charge

No registration fee, no participation fee and no training-session fee is charged to candidates at any round of NOAI — registration, Round 1, training session, Round 2 and national final included.

No profit at any stage

In accordance with the IOAI regulations, no institution and no individual involved in NOAI collects any payment with the intent of making a profit at any stage of the selection process. If a nominal contribution ever becomes necessary for a residential stage, it is strictly limited to offsetting accommodation, travel and the actual costs of the competition, it is announced in advance on this page, and no profit is made on it.

National inclusiveness

NOAI is open to students of every region of Burkina Faso, whatever their social status. The rounds that can be held remotely are held online so that candidates outside the main cities can take part on equal terms; the 2026 cycle selected candidates from three different cities.
